COMMUNITY HOUSING RECOGNITION AWARDS

Muskrat Dam First Nation

Muskrat Dam First Nation takes pride in their ability to persevere and thrive as a community in remote Northwestern Ontario. The Community Housing Department has a vision to provide high-quality housing projects as a component of the infrastructure and foundation for creating a safe and healthy community.

Despite challenging winter conditions, the Muskrat Dam Community finished building two triplexes in a duration of only 9 weeks in the Fall and Winter of 2017. The triplexes were built to be energy efficient using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), which are a high-performance building system for residential and light commercial construction. The triplexes also incorporate heated floor systems and quality building materials. The Muskrat Dam housing department worked closely with an industry manufacturing company and hired local people to assemble the buildings.

Muskrat Dam First Nation is no stranger to success as this is the third time the community is being awarded at the First Nations Housing Conference. For their most recent accomplishments, Muskrat Dam is being awarded a Community Housing Recognition Award for 2019.
