Health
Our homes function as systems – change made to one of the system components can have beneficial or detrimental effects on the heat, air and moisture levels of the home. This session will define the House as a System components and how change can have potential (positive and negative) impacts on the occupants and the building structure. Deep energy efficiency retrofits seek to reduce the burden of heating and cooling a home – this can only be done successfully when consideration is given first to the dynamics of the homes’ system and the Building Science Principles.
Anyone involved in planning, managing and implementing energy efficiency work on homes.
Gail Lawlor has been involved in the residential energy efficiency industry for over 40 years in a variety of capacities. Gail provided technical assistance to Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat First Nations in the delivery of their provincially mandated conservation programs. With CHEO and HC, Gail conducted IAQ testing on 100 FN homes in NW Ontario, proving the benefits of “fresh air machines” for optimal health. Currently, Gail enjoys working with Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) Catalysts in a supportive mentorship role and with the ICE ‘Bringing It Home’ energy retrofit project.
