The session will provide a presentation on, and discussion about, the programs and services provided by Department of Indigenous Services Canada to improve housing conditions and fire protection on reserve. The session will cover regular programming, special initiatives, and include a discussion on housing reform.
Siva Appiah is the Senior Housing Officer at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada -Ontario Region. He has been with the Department for more than 10 years and has been with the Government of Canada for approximately 20 years.
Siva is currently responsible for providing advice and guidance for the implementation and delivery of on-reserve housing programs in Ontario, including working with First Nations and Tribal Councils to plan and execute special housing initiatives in communities to improve capacity and living conditions on reserve. Siva is also responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Ministerial Loan Guarantee program which helps First Nations obtain financing for housing projects. In addition to these duties, Siva also implements regional fire prevention programs to help safeguard lives in First Nation communities.
Siva is currently responsible for the delivery of housing projects under Budget 2016 in Ontario with a budget of over $65 million in 2016-2017 alone to improve capacity and housing conditions on reserve.
