This presentation will benefit a First Nation interested in developing or redefining the scope of the Housing Committee so that they can champion effective property management practices, and support the achievement of housing goals. The presentation will include information on options for the structure of a Housing Committee, the responsibilities of a Housing Committee, the ways a First Nation can support the work of the Housing Committee and, resources that help a Housing Committee achieve their goals.
Roxanne Harper is a partner in Turtle Island Associates Inc, an Aboriginal business committed to supporting the efforts of First Nation communities by providing housing advisory and training services, and assistance with housing policy development. Roxanne is Mi’kmaq from the Eel Ground First Nation in New Brunswick. Roxanne has over 30 years of experience working on Aboriginal housing issues. She has extensive experience in delivery of training to First Nation housing providers and Aboriginal organizations. She has over 25 years’ experience moderating workshops and plenaries, coordinating and facilitating community consultations. Roxanne has co-developed several adult educational curricula (e.g. Enhanced Arrears Management, Portfolio Management by Housing Tenure) and facilitates these 2-day sessions to First Nation clients across the country. Roxanne holds a certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University, N.S.
