Understanding and meeting your community’s housing needs is a challenge and enormous responsibility. There are varying needs, perspectives and lifestyles that need to be considered when planning out your housing portfolio. With a well thought out approach to understanding your needs, adapting styles to meet those needs and incorporating this approach into your policy and planning; all members can benefit from a variety of community homes suited to the varying needs.

 

JACKIE HALL, OGEMAWAHJ TRIBAL COUNCIL

Jackie Hall is a Fort Albany First Nation member from the northern Ontario region of James Bay. She graduated from the 3-year Architectural Technology program at Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology in Timmins, ON. Jackie is a Certified Applied Science Technologist with the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

Jackie’s career in the technical field began after she graduated in 2002 and took a position as a Building Inspector trainee at the Mushkegowuk Tribal Council in Moose Factory, ON. After a few years working in the field of First Nation housing and Technical Services, she moved on to the position of Project Officer for Mushkegowuk assisting the First Nation’s in community development initiatives and projects. Eventually she went on to become the Director of Technical Services overseeing the department planning and operations.

In 2009 Jackie decided to relocate her family to southern Ontario for the opportunity to experience new educational and growth opportunities. She began her position at the Ogemawahj Tribal Council as Infrastructure Specialist and worked under an inspection mentorship before inspecting full-time on her own in 2010. She is now the main building inspector for the OTC communities and works diligently with the First Nation’s to progress housing development opportunities while advocating for the health and safety of the communities.

In her spare time Jackie enjoys creating new memories with her family, living an active lifestyle and focusing on personal development.
